The Code
In addition to recognizing the code of ethics for ISACA and ISC2, Halock
Security Labs adheres to its own Code.
- All In.
- Show Up. Be There. Do the Work.
- Weigh Matters Carefully.
- Secret Means Secret.
- Bring in the Ship.
- Renew Your Brilliance.
- Practice Purpose Driven Security™.
- Stress Balance. Balance Stress.
- Know How to Ask.
- Your Work. Your Name. Our Reputation.
All In. You have heard the phrase "jump in the
pool...all the way." Be committed and take pride in your work efforts.
Get into your work and be willing to stand up and take accountability
for your efforts, your recommendations and your decisions. Go the
distance if you are to do it at all. Halock team members don't pass
the buck or fold. That is because they are All In!
Show Up. Be There. Do the Work. These are three very
simple concepts that are the difference between success and failure. Get
your head in the game, concentrate and do the work. Just being there,
both physically and mentally is sometimes half the battle. Set
distractions and interruptions aside and work the problem at hand, here
and now. Get into the moment and focus! Lapsing on these concepts is
disrespectful to your team, as they must carry an increased burden as a
result.
Weigh Matters Carefully. Avoid carelessness and use
careful judgment in your work. Problems arise when we pay too much
attention to what matters little, and too little to what matters most.
There are things we should consider very carefully in light of the
criticality of our engagements as well as the legal ramifications. Plan
your efforts, understand the risks to each project and task. Inform
sponsors (Halock and/or client) of high risk factors. Proceed with
critical thinking turned on.
Secret Means Secret. Take care and remain forever
diligent in guarding the clients systems and information we have been
entrusted to protect. Do not become numb to the sensitivity and
criticality of the data we see and touch. Remember that secret really
does mean secret! It is not your data. Do not treat it as your data. You
are a custodian; a trusted courier, temporary at best. Every action
concerning secret client information or Halock intellectual property
should be considered carefully.
Bring in the Ship. This is another way of saying finish
the job or task at hand. A good ending turns everything golden, however
stormy the seas. To do whatever it takes to get the job done, even if we
"aren't in the mood" is a sign of great maturity. Without this
ability to push through to the end, our efforts may start out well, only
to lose momentum later on. Without maintaining clear vision and focus,
we risk losing sight of the primary objectives along the way.
Renew Your Brilliance. True talent and brilliance is
not a static thing, but a quality to be continually renewed and
rediscovered in each moment and in each challenge. Always be open to new
knowledge, insights, and lessons. Take each day as an opportunity to
discover something new. At the same time, work to help those around you.
You will find that one of the best ways to Renew Your Brilliance is to
share what you have learned with others, and through that sharing, to
discover nuances or perspectives that you had not previously noticed.
Practice Purpose Driven Security™. Purpose Driven
Security™ is Halock's unique service philosophy that derives
solutions from its client's strategy or Information Security Policy.
Halock applies its philosophy systematically; first identifying all of
the client's security requirements and developing an appropriate
strategy and Information Security Policy. Halock then assesses a
client's ability to meet those requirements. Only after these steps
have been taken can Halock help determine appropriate controls for
closing the gaps. Halock educates and enables clients to build and
maintain their own Information Security Program. This entire process
literally defines Purpose Driven Security™.
Stress Balance. Balance Stress. Be sure to live and
work a balanced life. It is healthy and rewarding to work hard, but only
if you are giving yourself the appropriate opportunity for rejuvenation.
For you that might mean enjoying sports, the beach, music, yoga, family,
or other non-work related activities. Balance is necessary to unlock
one's true potential. There will be moments of work effort that should
be given our full attention and energy, and there are family moments
that should not be missed. Find your balance. Walk the middle path.
Know How to Ask. There is nothing more difficult for
some, or easier for others. The old adage of "ask and you shall
receive" holds true in our business. Whether consulting, account
management, engineering, or sales, we all need to ask for something;
e.g. time, money, resources, tools, information, their business, etc. Do
not fear rejection. To ask and not receive is a victory compared to the
timid souls that are not playing the game at all.
Your Work. Your Name. Our Reputation. What you do in
life defines who you are. Your job is no exception. But remember that
you do not work in a bubble. The quality of your work not only affects
your name and your reputation but it also impacts your teammates and the
success of the organization. Take pride in your work and be proud to put
your name on it. To squeeze every ounce of quality out of every task we
undertake, whether large or small, will bring the peace of mind and
sense of well-being that comes from a job well done. If we all work in
this way, our success as a team is guaranteed.
