Protect Stand guard over your personal identifiable information (PII). Verify that websites are secure prior to entering in your credit card number or passwords – look for the ‘https’ to indicate it is safe to complete a purchase online.
Look past the fluff ‘Just browsing’ is a dangerous activity. Many recognizable sites can be ‘spoofed’. Fake sites can mimic the look of a legitimate business, but are designed to steal data from unsuspecting buyers not paying attention. Make sure you spell the URLs properly, or you may be directed to a mock site such as ‘anazon.com’ that is just waiting for you to give them your PII.
Is That a PUP? A Potentially Unwanted Program (Pup) is usually bundled with free downloadable software that could potentially be adware or a browser hijacker. Keep watch when downloading apps – check the optional installs during set up.
